Hi, I’m Elena.

Sometimes people ask me how I became a therapist. The long answer is that I love stories, watching people grow and have always had a relentless “why” question beating in the back of my brain at all times (to the chagrin of many an educator!). The short answer is that I became a student of therapy very early. I know that this relationship can have the power to heal.

I believe wholeheartedly in what our name, Tapestry Counseling Center, represents: there is a beauty and design to our lives despite pain seeming to choke our story of all goodness and hope. We are privy to just one side of the tapestry: the knotted side. I’m here to help you untangle some of those knots and, most importantly, to give you a small vision of the beauty that lies on the other side of all this pain.

I enjoy incorporating Christian spiritual formation practices into my work with clients. I also widely counsel clients of different beliefs and truly treasure each person with whom I get to work.

It is such a joy to be a guide in others’ journey of moving from rigidity to openness, from fear to love. Whether you are grappling with deep childhood wounds, intrusive, unwanted thoughts or entrenched shame about your body, you are welcome here.

Outside of work, you’ll find me buried in a book or re-painting a table or bookcase I found on the side of the road. I adore snail mail, cooking Tex Mex and painting in bright and happy colors. My ideal weekend includes seeing friends and chasing tall trees and vitamin D with my kind husband, spirited young daughter and wild old dog.

Experience

Between 2019-2021, I worked as an intensive in-home social worker trained in trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) in the greater Forsyth County area (including Yadkin and Wilkes counties). Starting in 2021, I have worked as a therapist in group practices. During this time, I obtained training from the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals and served as a co-leader for dialectical behavioral therapy groups.  Over time, my work has evolved to treat primarily individuals experiencing PTSD, OCD and binge eating disorders. In 2025, I became an EMDR certified therapist, helping clients with PTSD heal.

During graduate school in Austin, Texas, I interned at a local church serving populations experiencing homelessness (2017) and at a private practice (2018).
